Lubrication Guide

How do you choose the lube that's right for you? This guide can help!

It’s safe to say most people know the general purpose of lube – to relieve personal dryness, which everyone experiences at one time or another.

Personal dryness can be caused by:

  • Menopause
  • Changes in hormone levels
  • Drinking alcohol
  • Antihistamines
  • Antidepressants and other medications
  • Chemotherapy
  • Smog
  • Childbirth and Breastfeeding
  • Douching (ladies, please STOP douching; the vagina is self-cleaning, like an oven.)
  • Condom use

Lubricant can make sex last longer, provide a more comfortable experience, and intensify pleasure. Plus, it's a must-have for all toy play and self play.

Water Based - Water based lubes are preferred by many because they’re super easy to clean up and they’re safe to use with any toy. They use water as the primary ingredient, which means it can evaporate with friction, but you can reactivate it with the addition of moisture (like water.)

Silicone Based - Silicone based lubricants use silicone as the primary ingredient. These lubricants are popular because they’re very smooth, less likely to feel sticky or tacky, and last a long time because they don’t contain water, which can evaporate or absorb into the body (which is perfectly safe, by the way). Silicone lubricants can be thought of as concentrated formulas, because just a little goes a long way, and there is no need to reapply. Plus, it’s waterproof, so with care, you can use it in the bathtub, shower, pool or Jacuzzi. You can also use silicone formulas for massage, as a hair smoother, and to moisturize and shine up tattoos.

Warming & Cooling - Are you looking for a lube, or trying to create an experience? If you picked the latter, then a warming or cooling formula is just the ticket.

A warming lube increases your pleasure by helping to increase your circulation, which serves to sensitize you. Warming lube is a great choice for him when using a masturbation sleeve, as it makes the experience that much more realistic.

A cooling formula adds a stimulating tingle that ads a little extra chilly zing to your playtime.

Hybrids - Hybrid lubes are just like they sound – a cross between Silicone and Water based lubes. They offer the best of both worlds – long-lasting silkiness and easy clean up.

Flavored Lube - Take a great water based formula, add in some yummy flavors, and imagine the possibilities! You can use it in the same way as you might a regular lube, but a flavored lube adds sexy playfulness to your experience. Plus, the added taste is great to help enhance oral sex.

Self-Play Lube - A cream or lotion that usually contains some sort of oil-based moisturizer. These products can enhance manual stimulation by reducing friction, and are usually very long-lasting. These formulas are not intended for intercourse or condom use.
